Purpose

There'll be no more clogged blades thanks to the MUHLE R41 Open Comb Safety Razor.

Method

Unscrew the razor head as you would on a standard closed comb double edge.

Why it Works

Open Comb razors are great for shaving longer stubble, and the MUHLE R41 Open Comb is no exception. The Open comb design means shaved bristles and foam slide away under the blade, rather than clogging it up. This makes for a closer, more comfortable shave - just what you want.

Where is this made?

This razor is made in Germany by Muhle.

What does “open comb” mean?

The fact that there is a gap between the teeth of the comb allows more lather to remain on the face since it goes through the spaces. As a result, you will get a closer shave. This option is not recommended for daily use or for people with sensitive skin.

This is an example of an open comb:

This is an example of a closed comb:

Notice that in close combs, there is a bar that joins the teeth of the comb. This offers more protection and it is recommended for daily shaving. Most Double Edge Safety Razors are closed comb.

Are there different models of the R41?

This is the original Muhle R41 Double Edge Safety Razor.

The other options are: R41RG https://www.themodernman.co.uk/muhle-r41-rosegold-open-comb-safety-razor.html, R41Grande and R41Twist.

What is the difference with the R41 Grande?

The only difference is the size of the handle. The Grande model is: 41 mm x 107 mm and weighs 90g (1.6” x 4.2” and 3.17oz)

Is this a 3 or a 2 piece model?

This is a 3 piece model. You can disassemble the handle and the head (top plate and bottom plate)

This is an example of a 3 Piece Double Edge Safety Razor.

How to assemble it?

Please follow instructions suggested by Muhle:

Is it aggressive?

This razor is very aggressive and it is not recommended for beginners. Once you get the grip of it you will enjoy a very clean shave.

Apart from the type of comb, there are other aspects that will define how aggressive a razor is: the blade gap, the amount of blade exposed, the cutting angle and the blade.
