Tattoo Care This Summer

Tattoo Care This Summer

Winter’s fading away but that doesn’t mean you need to let your ink fade with it! If you’re anything like me you’ll already have your next tattoo in the pipeline, but this close to summer is that such a good idea? Our skin is exposed to every environmental factor on a daily basis, this summer let's make sure we’re prepared for it with our hot topic La:Bruket.

LA:Bruket create their products with all skin types in mind and one goal, to make sure our skin is well taken of. Advised by renowned tattoo studio Sang Bleu London, all of the chosen ingredients are designed to calm and nourish your tattoo whatever stage its in.

I’ve recently discovered these products and I have to be honest they’re amazing. I realised I don’t do enough to protect my skin never mind my tattoos, which cost money and are supposed to last a long time! So, I’ve compiled some top tips to help you and your tattoos out this summer.

#1 For those who couldn’t wait, avoid water!

A fresh tattoo is vulnerable to all kinds of infection and soaking the ink can introduce it to harmful bacteria! As horrible as this may be during the hot summer months stick to a few cold and short showers to cool off! La:Bruket can get you through with their Tattoo Cleanser Tea Tree/Lavender. Protecting the skin and keeping it fresh and clean not to mention it smells amazing!

A new tattoo should be treated the same way an open wound would be. An open wound leaves behind a plasma film to help protect and heal it. If this layer gets damaged the scab will become soft and essentially fall away taking the ink with it, leaving you with a scar not to mention a broken piece of artwork.

Having researched into this for this piece I can't determine which is worst, natural water or chemically altered water such as chlorine swimming pools. If chlorine or bacteria get into the fresh tattoo it can lead to serious health problems like blood poisoning, skin irritation and red lumps. Once the healing process is complete usually 3-4 weeks after a fresh tattoo chlorine or salt water can no longer effect it so dive into the pool or swim with the fish and enjoy whatever time you have left of summer!

#2 For those who couldn’t wait, Aftercare

If you’re like me and shall we say ‘picky’ with the products you use, only using vegan, cruelty free and ideally not harmful to the environment then panic not! LA:Bruket brings us Tattoo Aftercare. Applying this regularly helps to avoid heavy scabbing which comes hand in hand with an unbearable itch, anyone that has had a tattoo knows this feeling and it's not cool. Tattoos swell when they’re fresh LA:Bruket After Care has arnica and anise which acts as an anti-inflammatory and helps to fight bacteria! A new tattoo requires specific care to heal properly, its important.

#3 Hydration is key!

Water is important in general, our bodies can’t survive without it! but it's just as important to keep your tattoo hydrated as well, new or old this helps to plump the skin and heal a fresh tattoo faster believe it or not! Moisturising at least twice a day and having replenished skin can make all the difference. Water helps to keep the skin's elasticity which combats the appearance of aging skin. Unfortunately we all age, we’re only human and can't control time but there are so many things we can do to slow down the appearance of it, so stay hydrated this summer not just for your sake but for your tattoos.

#4 Sun Savvy

Fun in the sun is what summer is all about and what better time of year to show off your ink, but did you know even a healed tattoo hates the sun? Most people cover themselves in sun cream but why not try a cream designed to protect tattoos specifically? Tattoo Daily Protection is ready and waiting as often as you need. Titanium Dioxide provides a filter to protect you from the sun's rays and its natural! What more could you ask for?

There is nothing more damaging to a tattoo than UV rays, whether your tattoo is new or old the rays breakdown the pigments and leave you with a lifeless blob from what once was a great piece of art.

I’ve recently learnt that a tattoo exists under only 2 layers of skin! these layers act as a transparent barrier, the darker the layers the less the tattoo will be able to shine through!
